What to Put in Fido’s Beach Bag

Many Texans will be spending a lot of time at the beach over the next few months. Quite a few of our canine patients also like heading to the shore! Why not go ahead and pack a beach bag for Fido? A Sugar Land, TX vet lists some things to include below.

Include a couple of towels for your canine buddy. One is for him to lay on, as this will be more comfortable than just hanging out in the sand. You’ll want to rinse Fido down before heading home, so you may need a towel for that as well.

First and foremost, make sure your pup always has water. Keeping Fido hydrated is the best thing you can do to protect him from the heat!

Want to help Fido stay cool? Wet a bandana, and then hang it around his neck.

Collapsible plastic dishes are very lightweight and easy to carry. That makes them a great option for going to the beach!

Keep your pup cool and comfy in the shade with an umbrella. If you want to go all-out, you can get Fido an umbrella that’s attached to a hammock doggy bed. However, any old beach umbrella will work.

We strongly recommend putting a doggy lifejacket in as well. It’s better to have one and not need it, than need one and not have it. If you are planning on going boating, this is an absolute must!

Tie-Out Line

Another thing to include is a retractable leash or a tie-out line, as well as a stake that works in sand. That way, if you want to sunbathe, you don’t have to hold Fido’s leash the entire time.

First-Aid Kit

Fido definitely has a knack for getting into trouble. Include a doggy first-aid kit, as well as a few pet first-aid brochures. Better safe than sorry!

Paw Care Kit

Paw burns are unfortunately all too common at this time of year. That pavement can be scorching hot! Include paw balm or wax to protect your furry friend’s feet. If Fido doesn’t mind wearing booties, include some of those as well.

Waste Baggies

Be sure to pick up after your pooch! Always keep waste baggies with you.
