Caring for a Fluffy Kitty

Is your feline friend extra-fluffy? Long-haired kitties are certainly adorable. These pretty kitties do need a bit of extra TLC, however, particularly when it comes to grooming. A local Sugar Land, TX discusses caring for super fluffy cats in this article.

Grooming

Long-haired cats need to be brushed daily, or at least several times a week. Otherwise, that pretty fur could get matted, which can lead to skin problems. You may also want to trim the fur around Fluffy’s bottom, so she doesn’t get waste or dirt stuck to her coat.

Techniques

Cats often accept being groomed more easily if they see it as being pampered. It’s best to get Fluffy used to being groomed when she’s little, but you can still teach an adult kitty to enjoy being brushed. Pick a time when your cat is feeling happy and relaxed, and incorporate praise and treats, and cuddles. There’s a good chance that our feline friends understand compliments, so be sure to tell your furry pal that she’s a pretty kitty. Super fluffy cats often get tangles beneath their arms and legs and on their tummies, so pay extra attention to these areas.

Supplies

Long-haired kitties are often highly prone to getting hairballs, which are definitely no more fun for you than they are for Fluffy. Ask your vet to recommend a good hairball formula. You’ll also want to look for a kitty litter that doesn’t clump, as clumping litters may stick to all that fur.

Brachycephalic Breed

Brachycephalic kitties, which are those adorable furballs with pushed in faces, may need a bit more care and attention than other furballs. If your kitty has a scrunched-up face, be sure to keep the folds of skin on her face clean. These breeds are also prone to eye problems and breathing issues, so monitor Fluffy’s health carefully.

Diet

Proper nutrition is important to any cat’s health and well-being. This is definitely the case with long-haired kitties. Certain supplements, such fish oil, can help keep your fluffy kitty’s fur soft and shiny. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Parasite Control

Fleas aren’t fun for any kitty, but they are particularly taxing for long-haired cats. Be sure to keep up on Fluffy’s parasite control!
