Have you recently adopted a bunny? Congratulations! Rabbits are super cute, and make charming pets. Just like any other animal, Floppy will need a comfy habitat, a proper diet, and regular veterinary care to stay happy and healthy. It’s also very important to give your furry buddy lots of fun toys to play with. Luckily, you don’t have to break the bank to keep your furball’s toy box full. Read on as a Sugar Land, TX vet lists some great DIY playthings you can make your cute pet.

Cardboard Playthings

Bunnies have open-rooted teeth, which means that they need to chew quite a bit to keep their choppers from getting too long. You can turn many cardboard items into bunny chew toys. For instance, the tubes from paper towel or toilet paper rolls make great playthings for Floppy. Stuff them with hay, or cut them into rings and reassemble them as little balls. You can also fold them into chains, tie sisal rope around them, or pile them into a pyramid. Rabbits also like cardboard boxes. Why not make Floppy a box castle?

Paper

Cut plain pieces of copy paper into little shapes, like chains or snowflakes. (Tip: this is a great project for kids!) You can also shred some, and put a pile of it into a tissue box or paper grocery bag. Or, just crumple up some sheets around a yummy snack.

Treat Toys

Like most of our animal companions, bunnies love to eat! String a piece of twine between two chairs, and use clothespins to hang leafy greens for Floppy to nibble on. Or, stuff some fresh herbs into a paper lunch bag. You can also fill a plastic storage tote with shredded paper, and bury some carrots or cucumbers in it for Floppy to dig up.

Obstacle Course

It’s no secret that bunnies like to jump. Set out some footstools, shoeboxes, and/or storage totes, and make your adorable pet a cute obstacle course.

Wooden Toys

Many wooden items, such as blocks and spoons, are great for Floppy to nibble on. Just be sure to use only safe woods, like apple. Avoid anything with sharp edges and/or small parts, as well as items that are covered in varnish, stain, or dye. Ask your vet for more information.
